Institutional membership
Issues related to IFIP membership are treated in the IFIP Statutes and Bylaws, in particular Article 3 of the Statutes and Section 2 of the Bylaws.
IFIP Full Members vary from country to country - there are National Computer Societies, Academies of Sciences, Institutes and Agencies. The most important aspect is that the applicant organization should be representative of the national potential and activities in the field of informatics and information processing. Link to Members.
The application procedure for IFIP membership is described in Section 2 of the Bylaws. A formal Letter of Application should be sent to the IFIP President (c/o the address of the IFIP Secretariat). Such a letter should be accompanied by the following documents: the constitution of the organization, a list of financial resources, the names and titles of its officers, number of members and a brief outline of its history. These documents should be in English and are intended for review by the IFIP Admissions Committee. It is very desirable that an electronic copy (an attachment or reference to an URL) of these documents is provided. The Admissions Committee will prepare and submit its recommendations to the IFIP General Assembly, which has the mandate to decide on the admission of new Members. The IFIP General Assembly will decide on the scale of annual dues. A new Member is classified according to the scale of assessment for the apportionment of expenses of the United Nations.
There is an other category of affiliation that could be considered by applicants - Associate Member. This category, however, do not foresee voting rights.
International organizations, professional or governmental, having interest in information processing and willingness to cooperate and coordinate its activities with IFIP may become IFIP Affiliate members.
Individuals interested in joining IFIP
We recommend that all IT professionals and practitioners interested in IFIP work contact the respective national IFIP Member Computer Society.

IFIP Member societies nominate their representatives to the 13 IFIP TCs.
WGs consist of technical experts selected and assigned without consideration of nationality. WG membership is not restricted to those who belong to an IFIP Member society. Individuals who are interested to join a specific WG should submit an application (with a c.v. including professional data) to the respective WG Chair.
