Marketing Guidelines
These Guidelines are intended for marketing IFIP and its activities within the IFIP
network and the IT community.
General
- IFIP web site (www.ifip.or.at):
contains comprehensive information about IFIP and
its activities - events, publications, projects, directory information, news, links and
other. The IFIP website is regulary updated and further developed by the IFIP
Secretariat.
"This is IFIP" leaflet:
this leaflet neeeds to be distributed
widely at different occasions and is available electronically from the IFIP site and in
hard copy from the Secretariat. Leaflets can be provided to event organizers and to any
organization interested to learn more about IFIP.
- The IFIP Newsletter,
edited by Jack Rosenfeld, is printed quarterly by Kluwer
Academic Publishers and is distributed to IFIP Member societies and the IFIP Community. It
is available online in pdf format at http://www.ifip.or.at/newsletters/newsl.html
- IFIP Information Bulletin:
the IFIP Directory is published annually and contains all
relevant information about IFIP -- members, technical committees, organization and
mission, job charters and useful contact coordinates. It is regulary updated online at
http://www.ifip.or.at
(www.ifip.or.at): this excellent tool can be
downloaded from the IFIP web site. It can be used to assist IFIP volunteers in preparing
presentations on IFIP during conferences and other occasions.
- Listservers
: A comprehensive network of listservers for IFIP member societies, GA
representatives, Member society editors and other is maintained by the IFIP Secretariat.
There are also more specialisized servers for the TC Chairs, Council and Executive Board.
These are closed IFIP lists intended for IFIP business. In addition, an IFIP Billboard
is available at http://www.ifip.or.at where everyone
is invited to post messages about events, activities and projects irrespective whether
IFIP is involved in these activities.

contain information related to marketing.
Congress organizers need to set the congress home page which will be linked for the
IFIP website. IFIP Member societies are invited to provide visible links to the Congress
pages and to the IFIP Calendar of Events. In addition, short updates about the congress
preparations would be appreciated.
IFIP Publications (www.ifip.or.at/public.htm)
IFIP publications are:
- One journal and books (mainly proceedings) published by Kluwer which are marketed via
their institutional channels (e.g. marketing brochures quarterly sent via mailing lists
and exhibition at conferences etc) and via IFIP channels.
- Books (mainly proceedings) published by others than Kluwer which are mainly marketed via
the IFIP channels.
The IFIP marketing channels are:
- IFIP Web site
- Emails sent out regularly by the secretariat to MSs when new books are published, with
financial conditions for members of MSs. MSs are asked to forward this information to
their members.
- New IFIP book titles need to be communicated to the IFIP Secretariat and the IFIP
Newsletter Editor so as to ensure further visibility and promotion.
The Role of GA and TC representatives with regard to Marketing
- GA Representatives:
The role of GA and TC representatives is not only to represent
and promote their MS in IFIP but also to promote IFIP in their MS.

- Promotion of IFIP:
IFIP volunteers and Member Societies(MS) are encouraged to
promote IFIP by:
- Including on their stationaries: "Member of IFP www.ifip.or.at."
- To mention their affiliation in the signature lines of e-mails, business
cards, etc. and refer to the IFIP web site address.
- To speak of IFIP accomplishments in local communications. Such information is available
from the IFIP web site and the Secreatriat.
- IFIP Supporters:
Many IFIP events and activities receive support from industrial
companies and other organizations. The Organizers of such Events and IFIP can consider
possibilities to provide further visibility to supporters of IFIP activities. Information
about supporters need to be communicated in the conference reports.
